Sincerely relying on the fact that the real strength of Colonos is the participation and contribution of everyone, we decided to update you with a Press Release whenever deemed necessary.
Last week we gathered in a form of a memorandum our concerns as well as those expressed by our fellow citizens and we submitted it with the help of the Deputy Mayor Mr. Kollatos Sakis
at the Mayor's office,
where we analyzed and specialized one by one the topics we raised for discussion.
Following the above, he called us
in his office the Deputy Mayor
Mr. Chris Tentomas,
to respond to the memorandum, informing us at which stage of developments we are and to present us with a timetable for achieving the goals we set.
In our initial position, without missing a beat, we informed the Deputy Mayor about the climate of mistrust that pervades the citizens of the 4th district and about their zero tolerance for projects that should already have been implemented.
Bypassing past oversights and failures in priority issues that have to do with the daily lives of our fellow citizens, in a climate of consensus the following answers were given, which we consider to be political commitments.
1. The basketball court in the square of Agy. Georgiou project undertaken by the Municipality with funds from the Region of Attica is confirmed in its original form, ignoring proposals for the creation of a 5X5 field in the same location.
The long time delay of the specific project was used as a pressure lever to give priority over the list of corresponding 33 stadiums in the Municipality of Athens.
At our next meeting we will know exactly the exact date of completion of the project.
2. The Municipal authority expressed its desire in the proposal we submitted for two 5X5 football fields, at the fields of Kadmos and Ag. Konstantinou to create corresponding sports areas for basketball and football. In this way, both squares will regain vitality, having the possibility to accommodate our children, meeting the needs for sports which have now become imperative, emphasizing the businesses and shops of the area, but also giving the opportunity to young people who they want to be active in the area they love.
3. The heartbreaking situation in the Plato Academy park which has been pointed out by all of our citizens and is mentioned in every detail in the specific memorandum, is the result of a relevant decision taken by the Municipal Authority and has to do with the regeneration of the Historical site .
The work on the reconstruction of the park will start at the beginning of July at the latest and in the meantime it is reasonable not to expect any development towards the improvement and functionality of the park as a fund has been reserved for all this and it transfers a lot of work to the time period we mentioned.
To avoid misunderstandings, we separate the works of renovating the park and those of creating the museum, which will take place in an indefinite future time.
4. In the context of the communication with Mr. Tedomas, we also overcame the obstacle regarding the placement of the monument of Sotiris Petroulas in the square where it bears his name, for this issue we will submit an official request to the Municipal Authority, which he will personally promote at the next Municipal Council the Deputy Mayor Mr. Christos Tedomas,
5. With the support of the Deputy Mayor, an appointment was scheduled for next week with the president of OPANDA Mrs. Niki Arambatzi
in order to hold some anniversary events and to plan various new cultural activities as well as sports, giving priority to the historical Torch Relay where the Panathenaia will also be revived in a celebration of sports and culture in modern Athens in modern Athens
Plato's Academy in collaboration with the cultural club of Plato's Academy HEKADEMIA

Finally, the initiative for the establishment of our volunteer group E.O.D.A.K. (GAIA) KOLONOU https://www.facebook.com/groups/832106221174734/?ref=share_group_link
with fire and first aid departments. Also, the provision of hosting space by the Municipality had a very positive response.
In the developments concerning our neighborhood, we want you as protagonists and fellow travelers and, respecting the logical indignation, we selflessly try to push for the self-evident.
Through this we declare to you vertically that we will always act for the good of all of us and we would like you to share with us, your own thoughts - suggestions for a better tomorrow in our neighborhood.
The following is an exact copy of the memorandum we submitted to the Mayor of Athens.
Athens 07 March 2023
Dear Mr. Mayor,
I am taking advantage of the opportunity that today's meeting provides us and beyond the honor we feel the need to convey to you personally the concerns of our community.
Colonos is one of the most historic areas of Athens, which you symbolically chose by holding your swearing-in ceremony in the park of Plato's Academy. Honoring your specific choice, it is our duty to inform you with absolute respect about the misprints of the Municipal Apartment to which we belong.
You will allow us to list numerically the issues that need your immediate intervention,
1. Basketball Court Ag. Georgiou
The specific stadium remains closed for more than a decade and due to the also closed stadium of Sotiris Petroulas square and the poor condition of that of Kadmos, you realize that the youth of our region are not given the opportunity to play sports in this specific activity.
Our area hosted historic clubs such as Granikos Aegeus and Nireas with great success, keeping our children away from the scourges of the time, highlighting the fact that we are in one of the most infamous areas.
The passer-by outside the stadiums now encounters total darkness while vandalism is also taking place during the night near these countries but also inside such as WC for people and pets or car parking.
The image we present to you is not covered by exaggeration and comes in ironic contrast to those that have been indelibly engraved on those who were lucky enough under the light of sports to taste victories and the ideals instilled in you by sport.
It is imperative to operate the basketball court in Agios Georgios and we have already proceeded with the reconstitution of the "Granikos" Sports Association 2023 which will ensure the control of the court and set the standards for a healthy environment that will also protect today's children.
We understand the bureaucratic issues and the long-term procedures of executing a public project and although we are asking for something given and self-evident for any other area of Athens, we would like and ask you to responsibly define the time horizon for the completion of the project and promise us that in the meantime we will support our initiatives as a community, which will bring back the sense of sports facilities and culture in these spaces simultaneously holding sports cultural and charity events thus giving a ray of sunshine joy and optimism as well as the required "guarantees" to the residents of Kolonos and the Platonos Academy.
2. Plato Academy Park
Plato's Academy Park is home to one of the largest playgrounds in our community. Unfortunately, its current image is heartbreaking and carries risks even for serious injury to our children. We are able to know that OPANDA's condition does not allow its immediate repair, exposing our children to danger every day.
During the night, the lighting of the park is lacking, giving the opportunity to some to use the space for other purposes, washing cars, hanging clothes, and various vandalisms that do not befit the history of either space nor of our place.
With extremely animal-loving feelings, we point out to you that a specific area should be designated for the walk of our four-legged friends in the area of KOLONOS within the limits of the 4th Municipal Community, which will have the corresponding facilities, such as automatic feeders, markings and bins for their waste. With this specific demarcation, the safety of the residents' pets and visitors is ensured and the premises are kept clean.
Also, in many entrance points of the park there are no measures to prevent the entry of vehicles and this is now a daily phenomenon, the entrance of vehicles. cars that go so far as to demonstrate their ability to perform dangerous maneuvers, thereby endangering the physical integrity of the park's visitors. In order to find out for yourself the magnitude of the specific issue, it is enough to get information from the Greek Police and the Municipal as well, about the frequency of calls for this specific offense.
The measures to prevent the entry of vehicles should be controlled by the Municipality, the Police and the Fire Brigade who are required to have access for obvious reasons.
We are aware of the plans for the Museum of Plato's Academy and we think that in this direction, it would be right to put pressure together on the Ministry of Education to organize more frequent school walks , thus highlighting the historicity of the area, gaining a promising potential for recognition of the Platonos Academy that you yourself envision.
3. Voluntary Initiatives
Our community shows a moving action in all charitable and volunteer activities. This effort will become greater with rewarding projects if you support it and become its helper. As part of the activities, we would like to
a) your help in setting up an official volunteer rescue and disaster response team with firefighting and first aid departments as well as other emergencies under the official auspices of Civil Protection. Your guidance in the actions of setting up this particular group as well as the provision of space if possible by the municipality for its housing, would be a welcome project.
b) As a community we want to organize days of group blood donation with the volunteer group of the Kolonou blood bank that we have already created with the help of the Attica region and the Agia Sophia Children's Hospital , the first one dedicated to the victims of fatal accident in Tempe and the second for children with cancer.
c) On the Holy days of Easter, we want your help in collecting goods for the families in our area who really need it, under your auspices. On Easter Monday, in a space that will be granted on your recommendation, a large table will be set up, hosting the needy so that they can celebrate with all of us on this day with dancing and singing like a big family .
4. Sotiris Petroula Square
The 4th apartment is located in Sotiris Petroula Square and residents of the area made his bust at their own expense, thus ensuring the history of the undeserved student who fell for the Republic.
We ask for the self-evident that the Municipality officially designates us a space on the borders of the square to place his bust, thus rewarding the initiative of our citizens.
5. Sporting Events
In the effort to highlight our region, escaping from the climate of obsolescence that overwhelms our citizens, in recent decades, we have to propose to you some activities which we would like to establish with your support on an annual basis,
Tygananodos personally (Dengestinos Christos) to have a close friendship with the president of Piraeus Municipality, Mr. Vourakis Iosif, with whom we have envisioned two sports events that will connect these two historic municipalities, hoping that it will have a great impact.
a) The Municipality of Piraeus already organizes 3X3 Basketball Tournament Squares in open spaces, giving joy to young people, transforming a square into a space of celebration and laughter. The mood is for the specific event to receive elements of an informal championship between the two regions.
b) The organization of a mini Marathon at the limits of Piraeus Street, starting from the port and ending in Omonia.
c) Torch Relay - Which will have a starting point at the Park of Plato's Academy and finish at the sacred rock of the Acropolis.
The goal is the revival of the Panathenaic festival with sports and cultural competitions in a modern Athens in a modern Plato Academy.
6. We propose the operation of two football fields in Sotiris Petroulas Square instead of one in the square of
Agios Georgios where we want its original form and its use by the renewed historical association of our neighborhood which is under establishment "GRANIKOS" 2023.
The presentation of the concerns of our area to you, is possessed by the sincere hope that you yourself with your actions and initiatives will put an end to the discredit of our community, which spreads like a virus and infects with distrust the work you want to _cc781905 -5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_offer to our neighborhood. We are sure that you will take the above into account and our confidence is based firstly on the responsibility of your position and the willingness to offer since assuming your duties and secondly, knowing first hand and conveying to the rest ( Degestinos Christos ) as a former commando of the code of honor that holds you.
Sincerely
Representatives of residents of Kolonos and the Platonos Academy
DEGESTINO CHRISTOS
